Georgia and seven other states have started programs that offer parents, families, and friends—anyone who donates to nonprofit (nongovernmental) scholarship programs—tax credits for enrolling kids in private school. Although the law was passed with promises that it would give students choice and help them escape “bad” (read: public) for “good” (read: private) schools, it in fact created a massive subsidy for the families of students attending private schools already, helping private schools create benefits such as under-the-table athletic scholarships and teach creationism an propaganda instead of science and history.
