Greg Bales

A Math Test

  1. Greg’s home is 1.9 miles due south from work. There are hills, so it takes Greg 20 minutes to bike between them. A severe thunderstorm with gusts of 60 mile-per-hour winds, torrential rain, and hail is 7 minutes away when Greg leaves work and is traveling northeast at an average speed of 40 miles per hour. How far will Greg make it before he discovers that bike helmets are fair protection against hailstones?
    1. Scott Blvd.
    2. Hickory Hill Park
    3. HyVee Drug
    4. East Court St.
  2. What is the chance that the MP3 player that Greg carried in his pocket still worked after the drenching he received?
    1. 0%
    2. The cosmos would never allow an MP3 player to work again after that.
    3. It worked intermittently and randomly in 5-minute increments, but for all practical purposes, it was dead.
    4. 100% j/k lolz. MP3s never work after they get rained on.
  3. What is chance that the rains stopped completely by the time Greg made it home?
    1. 100%
    2. 100%
    3. 100%
    4. 100%

Put the MP3 player in a container of rice for 3 days, then try it again.

This actually happened two weeks ago, and I tried that—though admittedly, not for three entire days. Didn’t work.
