Ciudad de Asesinatos

Mark Dowdy adds a final flourish to the Murder City Challenge, “Ciudad de Asesinatos.” His co-writer Felicia Fis, of San Diego, sings a haunting vocal for the duet they recorded:

“Ciudad de Asesinatos” is for the disappeared, and it is simple, and it is heartbreaking. Here are the song’s lyrics:

Ciudad de Asesinatos

She left her home in San Cristobal
To work in the maquiladoras
Headed out west to Juárez
So far from god so close to the USA

She called home every day
to her family in Chiapas
Then one day the phone didn’t ring
One more desaparecidos

Chorus
Maybe I’d kill in Juárez
Voy morir en Juárez
With a shout and a scream
La cabeza llena de suenos

It’s murder on your hands, this killing
and uniforms are hard to keep clean
and no one speaks a word among the living
of what they all have seen

[Chorus]

Her family hasn’t stopped looking
but killers are good at stonewalling
when you serve to protect la gente de Juárez
so close to the USA.

[Chorus]
